June 18-24
For members of the runDisney community, June 20th was an important day. That was the day the Princess Marathon opened up for purchases and, as per usual, sold out. For those, like me, who missed it but still want to take part on the 22nd the virtual runDisney Princess races were available. Personally I got a 5K (Ariel) and 10K (Rapunzel) race and am looking forward to it!
In WDW corporate news there have been multiple management-level reshuffles due to McCarthy stepping down. I don’t follow along with all of this but if you do you can read about it here. Their Chief Diversity Officer has also left the company with an internal memo that was leaked not stating why.
Disney Imagineering is now testing the water features at EPCOT/Moana. It looks as if the water features are interactive based on the photos. You can see the photos on the official @waltdisneyimagineering Instagram account.
In entertainment news, Marvel, for the first time in years, will NOT be in Hall H at SDCC. I’m not going to speculate on why…ok, maybe I’ll speculate a little. There have been a lot of complaints from fans online with the recently released Marvel content. Marvel has also had a lot of issues with pushing back release dates, Jonathan Majors appearing in court and getting an August court date for the case against him, Blade production issues, and now the WGA strike. I think there’s just a lot going on at once so backing down from this is to be expected, yet still a shock.
On the west coast Disneyland’s Tiki Room, an opening day attraction, turns 60. Jose is looking good for his age. Also, with the new Indiana Jones film releasing soon, you can see Indiana walking around Disneyland park starting June 30th! Know who else is going to be seen? Nick freaking Fury. You can try to catch him (but we know he’s hard to catch!) in the DCA park. With Rogers opening soon we can expect to see a lot of Marvel characters roaming in Avengers campus.
Some of the biggest news involves the east coast: Genie+ is getting another update. For complete information click here. As for the gist of the updates, now there are park-specific prices. The change begins June 27th, so by the time you read this, it will already be underway. I would expect Magic Kingdom to cost more, and Animal Kingdom to cost less. You can also choose to get it for one park only or for multiple parks if you’re park hopping on any given day.
How about we hop overseas? Disneyland Paris is getting a Pixar themed musical! I love Pixar. TOGETHER: A Pixar Musical will be opening July 15th. The concept art makes this look like a lot of fun. Meanwhile on June 26th DLP union cast members will be having a meeting about negotiations.
That’s it for this week. Onward!
